Motherwell’s first transfers of the summer arrived like London buses, none for a while and suddenly all at once. The Steelmen welcomed Martin Moormann and Willy Vogt to Lanarkshire.

This article is a new series titled The Dossiers – another exclusive for Dispatch subscribers. We dive deep into the types of players we’re welcoming to the club, how they fit into a wider system, how they further the philosophy being built.

There is no better time to introduce a series. Gone are the times where we’re just adding names to a roster, numbers to a shirt. Signings now feel deliberate, intentional.

For example, Moormann should be judged against the gap Stephen Welsh leaves behind in the back line. Vogt should be judged on whether his attacking output in Switzerland can travel to a quicker, more physical Scottish Premiership.

The visual notes below separate the two tracks. Moormann is treated as a left-sided centre-back addition. Vogt is treated as a forward. No false equivalence, no pretending they answer the same problem.

Martin Moormann to Motherwell: the problem he solves Motherwell confirmed Martin Moormann on a two-year deal, subject to work permit approval, with the option of another year. The Austrian defender arrives from FC Blau-Weiß Linz after earlier spells with Rapid Wien and Rapid Wien II.

  1. Can you do profiles of the academy graduates? What should we expect from them?

Profiles of olly etc and the next youngster coming through would be good. Cheers

  2. Brilliant article thank you Dec
Liked the full previous club history too and I didn’t know we’ve got a player for free that previously cost £400k which is good business !!
