Scott Burns reported last week that Motherwell were leading the race to land highly-rated Swedish attacking midfielder Jardell Kanga. Burns reports that a fee has been agreed at £300,000 but could rise to as high as £900,000 based on add-ons. Personal terms have not yet been agreed and finalised, though Burns reports that they are close to agreeing. Motherwell are reportedly pushing to have him available for Sunday's SPFL Premiership match against Motherwell B, otherwise known as St Mirren.
Queens Park Rangers reportedly linked with Calum Ward

Rumours are gathering down south that Callum Ward could be heading to QPR. The rumours are adamant he has already signed. No update from either club. Matty Connelly's time to shine?
Austrian centre-back joins on two year deal, club hold additional option
Centre-back·FromMotherwell
“Martin is exactly the type of centre-back we require,” manager Alfred Johansson said. “His fast, physical presence allows him to dominate in the area and help prevent the opposition from creating chances. But he is also technically talented on the ball and is comfortable playing out in difficult situations. “We identified that this was an area of the pitch we needed to recruit new players for. Martin fits the profile for the left-footed centre-back we need in this area, and he has demonstrated that he can perform. He may be 25, but he has a lot of experience that will become useful for the team. I look forward to welcoming Martin to the club, and I hope this is a good season for everyone.” “I’m excited to be in Scotland,” Martin Moormann added. “I’ve been learning about Motherwell Football Club, and everything has been so positive. It seems like I’m joining a club that knows what it wants to be, and that’s really important to me. “The group of players achieved so much last season, and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone soon. We’ve got some big games early on this season, so there’s no time to waste. I also want to say how much I’m looking forward to seeing the supporters of this club. I’ve heard so much about the increased attendances and colour and noise the fans bring. It will be special to feel the atmosphere when everyone is together.”
Sports journalist Mark Hendry has today published on his Substack piece (link attached) that Motherwell are interested in Martin Moorman. The 6’1 is a free agent after the expiry of his contract with Blau-Weiß Linz. Previously, he was a defender for Rapid Wien.
Sports Broadcaster and Senior Football Correspondent for GiveMeSport, Ben Jacobs, has posted an exclusive on X (formerly Twitter) that Gonçalo Feio is one of three coaches who could become the next permanent manager of Motherwell Football Club. Jacobs said 'Understand Portuguese coach Gonçalo Feio is one of the names in talks. Motherwell are set to make a final decision in the coming days. Feio recently coached Polish side Legia Warsaw, where he led the team to a Polish Cup victory and beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the UEFA Conference League despite losing the tie overall. Feio previously held discussions with Rangers in late 2025 and has also drawn interest from Southampton in the past. He also has options in Portugal, Poland and Scandinavia'.

Stephen Welsh
Welsh joins the Swans
Centre-back·ToSwansea
Swansea City is pleased to confirm the club has reached an agreement to complete the signing of defender Stephen Welsh. The 26-year-old centre-back will formally join the Swans on July 1, on a two-year contract which includes the option of an additional 12 months. Welsh will add depth and competition to Swansea’s defensive ranks, and will join as a free agent having agreed to terminate his contract with Scottish champions Celtic at the end of June.
Former Celtic and Motherwell defender Stephen Welsh is about to finalise a deal to join Welsh side Swansea, reports the Daily Record. Some had wondered if he would sign permanently with Motherwell after pointing to the badge after his disallowed goal against Hibs, but the wages he'd demand and Askou's departure made it unlikely from the start.
Celtic have mutually terminated Stephen Welsh's contract. It's believed to be a sign of good will due to his service to Celtic over the years. Sky Sports report that clubs in France and Poland have registered their interest with the centre-half. There are currently no rumours circulating that he could be back on his way to Motherwell, but given his departure from Celtic - and the pointing to the badge after his disallowed goal against Hibs - it felt prudent to include in our Transfer Hub.
The Scottish S*n have reported that Motherwell have set the bidding price at £3,000,000 for the Motherwell midfielder. Suspiciously, this came a mere hour after The Steelmen Dispatch posted on X (formerly Twitter) stating that a figure between £3,000,000 and £3,500,000 was very likely to be considered by the Motherwell board. We're not saying the S*n got it from us but..., we wouldn't put it past them. Cardiff and Celtic are also reportedly interested.
Anderlecht reportedly interested in signing Tawanda Maswanhise
Forward·Linked toAnderlecht
Anderlecht have reportedly reignited their interest in signing Zimbabwean forward Tawanda Maswanhise. Motherwell rejected a £3,000,000 offer from Anderlecht in the January transfer window, with then-Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou stating "The offers for Tawanda didn't even come close to our valuation".
Joins Ligue 1 side Toulouse on a three-year deal after guiding Motherwell to fourth in the Premiership. Max Rogers and the other coaches remain at the club.
Five years and 148 appearances. A fan favourite throughout. Slattery was offered a new contract, but declined to sign in pursuit of other opportunities closer to home. He leaves with everyone's best wishes from The Steelmen Dispatch.
Andy Halliday retires from professional football, citing that years of playing have caught up with him. He played for Livingston, Middlesbrough, Walsall, Blackpool, Bradford City, Rangers, Gabala, Heart of Midlothian, and Motherwell in a career that began professionally in 2008.
After an excruciating time on the sidelines, Zach Robinson returned to fitness and made the Motherwell bench for the first time in over a year in Well's win over Hibernian. Robinson departs on the hunt for regular first-team football.
Loan spell ends; returns to parent club Celtic. The Celtic defender pointed to the Motherwell badge when he scored his later disallowed goal against Hibernian, leading some to think he is open to a permanent move to ML1. Despite that, no rumours are circulating in the press at the time of writing.
