The end of a chapter, not the story: Jens Berthel Askou joins Toulouse
Jens Berthel Askou revolutionised football in North Lanarkshire.

One of Motherwell’s greatest ever managers leaves the club after an eleven-month stint with the Steelmen. Askou has joined Ligue 1 said Toulouse.

His Appointment

After the final game of the Danish season, the relatively unknown assistant manager of Copenhagen received a phone call to alert him of a possible opportunity in Scotland, owing to the premature departure of German manager Michael Wimmer. Askou, keen to reenter the hot seat rather than continue being a number two, jumped at the opportunity.

Though the Club elected to go down something of an unknown route with Wimmer, given the premature ending of that reign, many in Scottish football had wondered if Motherwell would go down that same path. The announcement of Jens Berthel Askou, therefore, came as a complete surprise.

Upon joining Motherwell, Askou said

This is a really proud moment for me. It’s a huge honour to be selected to become the manager of Motherwell Football Club. Having spoken extensively with members of the Club Board, it was clear from the outset that our ideas, ambitions and morals align.

We are all ambitious people, and we’re all hungry for success. I can’t wait to arrive in Scotland and begin planning for the season ahead. There is a lot of work to be done, but it’s highly exciting. Jens Berthel Askou, unveiling press conference, June
