St Mirren 3 – 3 Motherwell: Kanga announces himself

How we didn’t win; how we didn’t lose. Seldom has a game of football produced these usually mutually exclusive statements in tandem.

St Mirren headed into this game with a fresh set of legs, whereas Motherwell had barely gotten off the plane from Germany, where they bowed out of continental competition at the hands of Bundesliga giants SC Freiburg. Craig McLeish’s new-look buddies had been tipped for the for the drop, but have yet to lose a premiership match and picked up two wins too.

Motherwell made three changes from the team that faced Freiburg. Ewan Wilson was replaced by the returning Martin Moormann, who was ineligible for the second tie with suspension, and Seb Palmer-Houlden was replaced by Regan Charles-Cook. Girdwood-Reich was absent from today’s squad, likely due to injury; as UEFA suspensions do not automatically carry over to domestic leagues unless it is a particularly serious offence. Instead, Tom Sparrow featured at right-back whilst wearing the captain’s armband.

St Mirren also made three changes from their previous fixture, the 5-1 loss to Rangers. Killian Phillips was a forced change due to injury (not due to transfer reasons, which was the leading theory on social media this afternoon), with Rangers loanee Paul Nsio replacing
